Install DataMint (Windows & Mac)

DataMint has two parts, and both are required:

  1. The desktop app (backend engine) - runs the AI enrichment, website scraping, and verification services on your machine.
  2. The Chrome extension - scrapes Google Maps, verifies WhatsApp numbers, and manages your lead table inside Chrome.

DataMint is not on the Chrome Web Store. Both parts ship together as a single download package, delivered to your email after membership purchase.

An internet connection is required for login, scraping, WhatsApp verification, and AI enrichment.

Step 1: Download the Package

  1. After purchasing a membership, you will receive a confirmation email with a download link.
  2. Click the download link in the email — the package will download automatically.
  3. The package contains:
    • The DataMint app installer (.dmg on macOS, .exe on Windows)
    • DataMint-Extension.zip - the Chrome extension build (contains the chrome-mv3 folder)

Don’t see the email? Check your spam/junk folder. The email is sent to the address used during purchase. If you still can’t find it, contact support with your purchase details.

Step 2: Install the Desktop App

macOS

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
  2. Drag the DataMint icon into your Applications folder.
  3. Open Applications and double-click DataMint.app.
  4. macOS may show a security prompt: “DataMint is an app downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?” - click Open.
  5. If macOS blocks the app entirely, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to the DataMint warning.
  6. Once running, the app sits in the background and serves the local backend at 127.0.0.1:8000. Keep it running while you use DataMint.

Windows

  1. Double-click the DataMint installer (.exe) to launch the setup wizard.
  2. If Windows SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info → Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer prompts and click Finish when done.
  4. Launch DataMint from the Start Menu or Desktop shortcut. Keep it running while you use DataMint.

Step 3: Load the Chrome Extension

The extension is installed manually (developer mode) - it is not on the Chrome Web Store:

  1. Unzip DataMint-Extension.zip anywhere you can find it (you will need to keep this folder, so don’t put it in the Recycle Bin or Downloads cleanup).
  2. Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/.
  3. Turn on Developer mode (toggle in the top-right corner).
  4. Click Load unpacked.
  5. Select the chrome-mv3 folder from inside the unzipped extension folder.
  6. The DataMint extension now appears in your extension list. Pin it to your toolbar for easy access.

Step 4: Log In With Email OTP

DataMint uses passwordless login - just your email and a 6-digit code. No passwords, no SSO.

  1. Click the DataMint icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the side panel - the login screen appears automatically.
  2. Step 1: Enter your email → click Send Code.
  3. Step 2: Enter the 6-digit verification code from your inbox → click Verify & Sign In.

Good to know:

  • Codes expire in 15 minutes - if yours timed out, use Resend.
  • Accounts are provisioned - there is no self-signup. DataMint accounts are created for you (by the DataMint team or your vendor). If your email isn’t on file, no code is sent - contact support with your purchase details.
  • One device by default - your license covers a fixed number of devices. Signing in on a new computer signs the older session out (this can take up to ~1 hour to register). Finish work or export before switching machines.
  • Profile panel - your email, theme toggle, version/update status, and Logout (with confirmation) live here.

Step 5: Verify Everything Is Connected

  1. With the desktop app running, check the Server Status badge in the side panel header:
    • Connected - the extension can see the local backend. You’re ready.
    • Disconnected - see Troubleshooting below.

Install Order & Daily Use

  • Install the desktop app first, then the extension. The extension checks server status as soon as it opens - without the app running, all AI enrichment features are unavailable.
  • Every work session: open the desktop app first, then use the extension in Chrome.

What works without the app?

The local backend (127.0.0.1:8000) powers all AI enrichment, verification, and scraping tools. Without it running:

How to Use DataMint

Once installed, the whole workflow takes four steps. Here’s the short version - full details for each feature live in the docs hub.

AI & Enrichment Problems

Enrichment cells are emptyEmpty ≠ “None”. Empty means the run failed or was skipped for that row; “None” means the AI checked and found nothing - a real answer. Fix: column ⋮ menu → AI Actions → Retry skipped results. If everything comes back empty, check the backend badge and your API key first
WhatsApp checks all failingYou’re logged out of WhatsApp Web in that Chrome profile. Open web.whatsapp.com, log in, then re-run with Retry skipped results. Also check the safety delay slider isn’t set so low you’re being rate-limited
“No results found”Broaden your query (e.g. “restaurants in New York” instead of “vevan restaurants in SoHo”), and make sure the Maps results list actually shows listings
Scraper stops midwayKeep the Maps tab open and visible; avoid clicking around in the tab during a run

FAQ

Do I need to pay DataMint for API usage? No - DataMint is BYOK (bring your own key). Your OpenAI/Groq/Serper/Reoon usage bills to your own accounts. Keys live in your browser’s local storage and go straight from your machine to the provider.

Can I use DataMint on two computers? Your license covers a fixed number of devices - one by default. Signing in on a new machine signs the old one out (may take up to ~1 hour to register). Contact support to raise your seat count.

Why do some sites show “None” for email? “None” means checked-and-not-found. Many businesses simply don’t publish an email. Try the decision-maker playbook (Google Search + custom prompts) before giving up.

Is there an Excel / Google Sheets export? No - CSV download and clipboard copy (TSV) only. Copy All Table pastes directly into Sheets/Excel with proper columns. See Import & Export.

Can DataMint sort or filter my table? Not in-app - export the CSV and sort in Sheets/Excel.

How many rows can the table handle? Soft limit of ~1,000 rows - beyond that you’ll see a performance prompt. Split large lists across exports.

Is WhatsApp checking safe? With the default 15s delay, yes - it mimics human pacing. Setting the delay to 5s or below shows a Risk warning because fast checking can get your number flagged. DataMint checks presence only; it never sends messages.

Does Facebook scraping need my password? No - it uses your existing logged-in Facebook session in Chrome. Private/locked profiles return less data; that’s Facebook’s privacy, not a bug.

Why is my custom prompt capped at 1,000 characters? Design limit - keep prompts focused. Use #ColumnName mentions so the AI reads your actual data instead of describing it.
